Aviation Institute of Maintenance

FAA Approved Airframe and Powerplant School

Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is part of a successful group of companies, which first began in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1969. We have maintained a tradition of excellence in education throughout our expansion of aviation career schools since 1994.

Our aviation career schools have been providing the aviation industry with qualified aircraft mechanics and aircraft maintenance technicians for two decades. We take great pride in the success of each and every graduate. As a result, our aviation career schools have produced thousands of professional aircraft mechanics who work in the aviation industry throughout the United States and abroad.

Aviation Career Programs Offered

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance offers training in the following Aviation Career Fields:

nav Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology

The Aviation Maintenance Technology degree program provides a graduate with the education and practical skills needed for a position in today’s aviation industry. The degree program enhances critical thinking skills and provides the student with the opportunity to develop strong writing, mathematical, science, and communication skills, which may lead to greater opportunities for professional growth in the competitive aviation profession.

nav Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT)

The Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to excel as an aircraft mechanic and to pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test to become a certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician for employment in aviation maintenance.

nav Aviation Maintenance Technician Avionics (AMTA)

Gain valuable hands-on experience in the hangar and avionics trainers while studying the general and airframe subjects required by the FAA, as well as the electronics and avionics subjects needed to test for the Aircraft Electronics Technician’s certification and CertTEC exams.

nav Aviation Maintenance Technical Engineer (AMTE)

Gain the hands-on techniques and knowledge in areas like composite fabrication and repair, sheet metal, hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation, landing gear, piston and turbine engines and other aircraft systems.

nav Aviation Maintenance Technician Helicopter (AMTH)

Gain the hands-on techniques and knowledge in areas like rotary wing aerodynamic principles, helicopter flight control systems, helicopter engines, rotor systems, preventative maintenance and much more!

nav Avionics Technician

The Avionics Technician Program is designed for those who already have some training or experience in aircraft maintenance or electronics repair and will prepare you for career opportunities in aircraft electricity or aviation electronics systems, troubleshooting and repair.

nav Aircraft Dispatcher

The Aircraft Dispatcher program is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved training that incorporates classroom and lab instruction preparing Aircraft Dispatcher students to pass the FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Written, Oral and Practical Certification Exams which are administered by FAA Designated Aircraft Dispatcher Examiners upon graduation.

nav Combination Welding

Hands-on training will allow you to develop the basic manipulative skills involved in welding and flame cutting, and classroom instruction covers welding theory, shop prints and blueprints and more. When you graduate, you will be prepared to take the test for the Welding Certification from American Welding Society (AWS) 3G-4G.

nav Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program will prepare graduates for entry level positions within the HVAC industry. Students will receive practical hands-on instruction in Air Conditioning, Heating Systems, Residential and Commercial Refrigeration, Heat Pumps, Hydronics and many other areas.

nav Industrial Manufacturing Technician

In the Industrial Manufacturing Technician program, students will acquire the skills necessary to work as an entry level position in the manufacturing and fabrication industry.

Students will become acquainted with basic welding and fabrication methods, blueprint reading, safe machining practices, lathe and milling machine operations, CNC operations and setup machinery, general machinery, and CNC machinery as well as metal and composite fabrication and repair. In addition to these the student will receive training in new emerging fields such as prototyping parts/components, and injection molding.
